ForWard Design is a brand I’ve used since studying Product Design in college back in 1990s.  My name is Shane Ward and I’ve been working as a product design engineer in various industries since graduation in ’96.

It’s annoying to see products on the market that you know you can improve upon.  I’ve been using 3D printers for years within the industry and I think that it’s the way ForWard.  It offers the flexibility of small volume production, using printers that have spools of plastic as their media, rather than ink.

It was in Dec 2016 that our family life was turned upside-down. Our daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.  2017 was a blur.  But from all of this, a goal  emerged – how to make our daughter’s life better.  Thanks to social media platforms – we also learned from other’s experiences.  We became aware of new technologies that were available to better manage blood glucose levels (BG) and insulin intake. What could I do as a designer? I’m not a doctor or a scientist, but I can improve on the wear-ability of the technology.  These are not gadgets. They are game-changers, that need to be used 24/7, so have to be comfortable.
